Pest Identification
Dos and Don'ts

Mites

Do

Treat bites with antiseptic and a local anaesthetic to ease irritation.

For scabies mites consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment. If dog scabies is transmitted to man, consult a veterinarian.

Change the bedding – sheets, blankets, pillow cases and mattress pads - often and use non-fibrous bedding

Don't

Don’t simply use any pesticide to treat mites – it’s important to determine the kind of species first for effective treatment. E.g. plant mites are quite different to house dust mites. It is instead important to figure out the answer to these questions to determine what kind of mite you are dealing with.

Termite Barrier Installation

Thinking of Building or Renovating your Home?

It’s difficult to anticipate the problems that could arise in your home before it’s even built. That’s why we’re here to ensure that your home renovation or building process includes an installation of termite barriers during construction, no matter how big or small the development.

We’re proud to announce that termite protection during construction is one of our specialties! We can offer you free advice and quotations. Simply send us a copy of your plans or you can arrange a site inspection.

As the owner or builder, it’s important to understand how termite management works, particularly for new buildings and the extension or alteration of existing buildings. We can provide you with all the essential information and alternative options to help address these requirements.

We follow a policy that adheres to the termite management requirements as stated in the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and Australian Standard AS3660. In laymen terms, this means that the wall, roof and floor framing (structural elements) and door jambs, window frames and reveals, architraves and skirting of all new buildings must be protected to reduce the risk of termite infestation.

In order to stay within the minimum requirement as stated in the BCA it’s important to ask the following questions before proceeding with any building work:

Q. Is the building in an area where there is a risk of termite infestation?

A. In NEW SOUTH WALES, virtually every area is susceptible to a termite attack, so the answer if you live in New South Wales will be ‘yes’. Let’s proceed to the next question.

Q. Will there be any members such as wall, roof and floor framing, door jambs, window frames, reveals, architraves or skirting susceptible to attack?

A. If the answer is ‘no’ (for example, if termite resistant materials have been used for the above members) then subject to any other contractual requirements, there is no obligation under the BCA to provide further termite management. It’s important to remember however that the rest of the building will still be unprotected and at risk of damage by termites which are quite happy to devour cabinets, wall linings and sheathing of electrical wiring.

If your structure does have susceptible members then termite management is mandatory.
